With Spring coming soon, I thought it would be a great week for a blog repost! Originally published with Arise Daily, Jan, 2026.
For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1 ESV
When I think of all the ways God loves me, giving me life seasons is not usually at the top of the list. But the older I get, the more I see how life flows through different seasons—and how God uses each one to teach me His ways.
Some seasons feel like summer—everything is bright, warm, and easy. Other times, life feels cold and barren, like the dead of winter. Families break, hearts ache, and we long for change.
I have been reading lately about why so many New Year’s resolutions fail. We pick a day in the middle of winter to start something new—to lose weight, get organized, or start fresh. But by February, most resolutions have melted away.
Why? Because winter is not meant for new growth. It is a time for rest and renewal. Nature hibernates for survival, drawing close to warmth and conserving energy. We tell ourselves to “do better,” but what our souls need is to be still. We feed our bodies salad, but what we are craving is a hot bowl of soup! We need warmth and comfort, and we are trying to force ourselves to eat summer foods… it just does not work. You cannot resolve yourself out of winter.
Spiritually, I often try to rush out of my winter seasons too. I long for spring’s new growth, for my tears to dry and my pain to fade. I want to move on, to feel the warmth again. But God keeps reminding me—every season has a purpose.
“For everything there is a season, a time for every matter under heaven.”
Whatever season you are in, trust God in it. If life feels dark and cold, know that your summer will come. God does not waste a single moment. In His love, He allows seasons to shift—teaching us to depend on Him for warmth and comfort.
If you are in a season of weeping, laughter will return.
If you are in a season of war, peace will follow.
If you are in a season of loss, joy is still ahead.
You only need one resolution this year: Be still and know that He is God.
Rest where He has you. The same God who allows winter will bring spring in His time. The same God who sits with you in the cold will lead you into warmth and new life again.
Stillness in winter is not punishment, it is preparation. It is God’s invitation to slow down, to draw near, to stay close to the fire of His presence.
So do not despise the season you are in. God loves you enough to use everything He allows —to teach, strengthen, and renew your heart.
Hold on! Spring is coming!
Prayer: Lord, Thank you for being the God of every season. Show me you are still near, even when life feels cold and silent. Teach me to find peace in the waiting and strength in the stillness. Even when I cannot see new growth, help me believe that You are working beneath the surface, preparing something beautiful in Your perfect time. In Jesus’ name.
